Walking up the stairs, the chords of reggaetón blast above me from the giant speakers. Each tap of my foot against the solid cement steps matched and echoed by the strangers walking past. A voice all around me announces new information and and figure inside the giant box behind me repeats it through the speaker but it's muffled and static. Ignoring the voices, I enter the sunlight that surrounds the growling motors, vibrating speakers, and quiet people around me. Turning towards the corner, across from me is chants from the religious group spreading their ideas to anyone willing to listen. The group's words grow in volume as excitement erupts from the crowd but suddenly mutes when I look to my right and focus on a car passing by me on the street. Suddenly the wheels scratching against the pavement is what I notice the most. The word "wait" repeats four times near my left side. I look forward and the crossing light remains red as a child next to me presses against the crosswalk button. The smack between the child's hand and the metal device is unheard against the repeated robotic response to continuously wait. So I wait. As the opportunity to cross the street presents itself, a ringing hits against my ears harshly. A black and blue vehicle speeds by, commanding the entire street's attention with it's roaring alarm. The sound is powerful but quickly the roars become less lethal and turn into an aggressive melody until it disappears.
